OCALA, FL (352today.com) – CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion, the workforce development organization dedicated to connecting local residents with meaningful, sustainable careers via education, training and other employment resources, is holding another free FiberOptiX Bootcamp cable installation training session early next month–but the deadline to register is looming.

The organization’s weeklong FiberOptiX Bootcamp “is part of the Creating Connections program specifically designed to help fill critical broadband positions in order to provide high-speed internet for approximately 70,000 residents and businesses in three rural CareerSource regions (CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion, CareerSource North Central Florida, and CareerSource North Florida,” according to a release.

Basically, the bootcamp trains and certifies applicants in fiber broadband internet installation and maintenance and helps them find a job afterward. The reason CareerSource does multiple bootcamps is because there’s currently a critical need to fill these positions as faster internet spreads to new communities across the region and beyond. And it works–a majority of the Levy County residents who’ve attended the bootcamp, for instance, have found employment in the industry.

Here’s what bootcampers get:

  • Hands-on training
  • The ability to earn three industry-recognized certifications for free
  • Job placement support in the telecommunications industry
  • Additional “wrap-around” supportive services “such as travel assistance, uniforms and tools”

The bootcamp is conducted by BDI DataLynk, a company recognized by the Fiber Optic Association, the industry’s largest professional society.

This next FiberOptiX Bootcamp will be held August 2-7, 2026, the College of Central Florida Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus, 15390 U.S. HWY 19, just north of Chiefland.

If you’re interested, you’ll need to get on it: Limited positions are filling quickly, and the deadline to register for the bootcamp is this Friday, July 24.
