LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Workforce resource and employment aid organization CareerSource CLM (the branch of CareerSource Florida that works with residents of Citrus, Levy and Marion counties) is once again offering a free one-week training in a particularly busy and potentially well-paying sector of the fiber cable/internet industry.

“The boot camp is part of the Creating Connections program specifically designed to help fill critical broadband positions in order to provide high-speed internet for approximately 70,000 residents and businesses in three CareerSource regions that include rural counties,” read an announcement about the program.

In just one week, participants receive:

  • Hands-on training with fiber optic cable, patch panels, and test equipment
  • Ability to earn three industry-recognized certifications (a $3,350 value)
  • Job placement support in broadband telecommunications
  • Wrap-around services such as travel assistance, uniforms, and tools

According to CareerSouce CLM, 72 percent of the individuals in the region who’ve taken advantage of the program have since found employment in the industry.

The fiber optics boot camp training is conducted by BDI DataLynk, “a standards-based company offering Fiber Optic Association (FOA) sanctioned fiber optics network technician training. FOA is the largest professional fiber optics society in the world.”

The next training runs May 18-22, 2026 at the College of Central Florida Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus, 15390 U.S. HWY 19, just north of Chiefland, and is open to residents of Levy County.

The program is free, but space is limited.
