CEDAR KEY, FL (352today.com) – Cedar Key continues to rebuild after a bout of hurricanes and a recent fire.

The Cedar Key Fire Rescue Chief announced on the department’s Facebook page that all comfort stations are now fully operational with hot water, and signs are being posted with contact numbers for any issues.

While coordinating relief, the Chief says that he has faced some communication challenges, including being mistakenly listed as the driver of a fuel truck, which led to multiple calls.

A tent at C and 3rd Streets is offering services from various agencies including FEMA, Veteran Affairs, and Florida Commerce. CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion will also be on-site Wednesday through Friday to assist those who lost jobs due to the disaster.

The Chief says that the ice truck, now resolved after earlier communication issues, will be stationed at the First Baptist Church of Cedar Key, located at 717 2nd St., continuing support alongside local churches providing meals and supplies.

Debris removal and patrols by the Tallahassee Police Department are ongoing, says the Chief. The fire and medical strike teams will demobilize by Wednesday, and a curfew of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. remains in effect due to theft issues. Additionally, the Chief mentions that two out-of-town cars were caught drag racing at the airstrip, prompting further patrols.

The Chief also updated on housing relief efforts and is discussing with Congresswoman Kat Cammack how to accommodate temporary housing like trailers and RVs. Of eight structures under a mitigation grant, one home on 1st Street may require demolition. He also says that waterway debris removal crews are expected to arrive soon
