CEDAR KEY, FL (352today.com) – Cedar Key has had its share of natural disasters within the past few weeks.  From hurricanes to fire, the Gulf Coast community continues to recover.

Cedar Key Fire Rescue (CKFR) reports that power, water, and sewer systems are still operational following Hurricane Milton.

While the island is still recovering from the Dock St. fire and destruction from Hurricane Helene, local officials report that storm surge wasn’t an issue. ” So far, the water has stayed pushed out. I’ve driven most of the main roads in Cedar Key and have found nothing blocked,” says Cedar Key Fire Rescue.

CKFR says that preliminary checks indicated no new significant damage to the area but ask that no visitors come to the area for sightseeing. “Over the next few days there will be a lot of moving parts,” says CKFR in a Facebook post. “Our resources should be returning should be returning to town.  Debris removal should continue as long as they have drivers to work.”

The department also expressed concern for those who took a hard hit further south. “As much as our prayers have been answered on this event,” they say. “They need our prayers south of us now.  We all have a long way to go and will need strength and guidance to get through it.”
