OCALA, FL (352today.com) – To meet a major increase in the need for technicians with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training, the College of Central Florida (CF) has created a new college credit certificate program and is now enrolling students for the Fall 2025 semester.
CF worked with the City of Ocala, Marion County and regional employers to design the new GIS program, which will prepare students for employment as GIS technicians, surveying and mapping technicians, cartographic technicians and a variety of other specialist positions in the GIS field.
Hands-on training will equip students with the skills to collect, manage and analyze geographic data using tools like ArcGIS, and they will gain experience in spatial analysis, coordinate systems, remote sensing and digital map creation. Graduates will know how to create and maintain spatial databases, interpret satellite imagery and apply GIS to real-world scenarios in planning, environment and infrastructure. This program also will prepare students to sit for the MOS Excel, AutoCAD and ArcGIS Pro Foundation certifications.
GIS is one of several certificate programs within the college’s Computer Information Technology department, which also offers an associate in science degree and a bachelor’s degree option. For more information, visit CF.edu/IT.
