ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A three-person race for the democratic nomination for Alachua County sheriff ended with an Alachua Police Department captain the victor.
Democratic candidate Chad Scott won the majority of votes in Tuesday’s primary election.

Scott garnered 51.13% of the vote, securing 10,501 votes out of the 20,538 cast, according to the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections website.

Scott beat out opponents Latrell Simmons (28.62%, 5,878 votes) and Peter “PK” King (20.25%, 4,159 votes).
In a celebratory post on Facebook, Scott wrote, “That is how you win…Thank you.”
Scott now faces Republican incumbent Sheriff Emery A. Gainey and independent Pamela Marshall-Koons in the November general election. Neither faced opposition in the primary.
