INVERNESS, FL (352today.com) – Citrus County Animal Services (CCAS) is proudly joining forces with Petco Love and animal welfare groups across the state of Florida on a shared mission to find homes for thousands of dogs and cats currently in shelters. The Petco Love Florida Mega Adoption Event will take place across the country on Friday, June 27 through Sunday, June 29, 2025.
The County Animal Shelter, 4030 South Airport Road in Inverness, will be open special hours, including Sunday, for this event:

In Jacksonville, a regional MEGA event is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29, at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, 510 Fairground Place, in downtown Jacksonville. The event will have hundreds of dogs, cats, kittens and puppies available for adoption from throughout the area. CCAS will be joining 10 other area shelters at the event, bringing 60 adoptable cats to the Fairgrounds. Event hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day and parking is free.
“Last year we adopted out 53 cats and 11 dogs total, here and in Jacksonville,” said Animal Services Director Colleen Yarbrough. “And we have a small but mighty crew taking approximately 60 (but not all!) cats to the Mega Adoption event again this year. We truly would like to get as many pets into homes as possible.”
Yarborough also noted adoptions have slowed down considerably, leading to overcrowding at the facility. For more information, call CCAS at 352-746-8400, or visit citrusbocc.com.
