CITRUS COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Citrus County Animal Services announced on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, that it is pausing its Community Cats program until further notice due to a staffing shortage.

The Community Cats program offered TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate Release) services for stray, loose or feral cats brought in by Citrus County Residents. The program was previously limited to the first 25 cats brought in on any given Tuesday morning, and its benefit to the community really can’t be understated; TNVR helps control local outdoor cat populations, reduces nuisance behaviors, fights against the spread of diseases such as rabies, and gives local bird populations a break, all while keeping existing cats healthy as they provide natural pest control.

“Citrus County Animal Services apologizes for the inconvenience and will provide an update as soon as the program is able to resume,” the department said in a release.
