GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – Citizens and Gainesville community leaders will join together on Monday, Patriot Day, to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

A ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives as a result of the acts of terror on Sept. 11, 2001, begins at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall Plaza, 200 E. University Ave.

The anniversary of the September 11 attacks is a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Gainesville’s observance will include members of the faith community who will lead blessings in honor of the victims.

A moment of silence is scheduled at 8:46 a.m., the moment when the first airplane struck the World Trade Center in New York City. In unity with ceremonies across the nation, church bells will also toll at that time.

Gainesville leaders will ask those in attendance on Monday to honor the victims of the attacks by observing the Monday with acts of kindness, generosity and service.
