GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – Grab a hot beverage and bundle up, temperatures in north-central Florida are expected to drop causing communities to open shelters this week.

The city of Gainesville announced the activation of its Cold Night Shelter (CNS) Program due to temperatures dropping below 45 degrees.

The city offers two shelters for the public through its CNS program. St. Francis House, located at 413 South Main St., serves families, women and children. GRACE Marketplace, located at 3055 NE 28th Dr., primarily serves individual adults.

City officials say the shelters will be open from Thursday, Dec. 28, through Sunday, Dec. 31, and will remain open as long as temperatures are below 45 degrees.

The program runs from Nov. 1 through March 31.

Here’s a look at the forecast in Gainesville over the next couple of days from the National Weather Service.

Thursday Night: A 10% chance of showers before 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy with a low of approximately 44 degrees. West wind from 6 to 9 mph.

Friday: Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high of near 57. Breezy, with a northwest wind around 8 to 15 mph, and wind gusts as high as 23 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low of 36 degrees and west wind around 5 to 9 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high of about 58. During the morning time, light northwest wind coming in around 8 to 13 mph. Wind gusts have the chance to get as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Clear, with a low of 35 degrees.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 62.

Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 41.
