OCALA, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE, 5/31/2024: The City of Ocala Water Resource department has rescinded the precautionary boil water notice for the Blitchton Road area.

The city says the water is now safe to drink, cook with, and carry out all normal daily activities.

Officials say the lines in the affected area were flushed, and several samples were collected. They say water tests show no sign of bacteria for two consecutive days, and the chlorine residual meets regulatory standards.

ORIGINAL, 5/30/2024: The City of Ocala has issued a precautionary boil water notice.

Ocala Water Resource officials say the advisory impacts homes and businesses in the 3800 block to 4900 block of NW Blitchton Rd. and NW 52nd Ave. from State Road 40 to NW 8th St.

The utility says the water system experienced a drop in pressure while a contractor was installing a fire line. This could cause contamination of all drinking water in that area.

The department advises that all water used for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice, washing dishes, or food preparation be brought to a boil until further notice. The recommendation is to boil water vigorously for one minute and let it cool before using. Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

If that’s too much trouble, you can use bottled water.

The city says the precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink. They will notify customers when water conditions have satisfactorily returned to drinking water standards.
