OCALA, FL (352today.com) – You don’t have to use watercolors to enter this contest, but water and color will be among the keys to winning it.

The City of Ocala Water Resources Department invites Marion County students in grades kindergarten to 12th to participate in its “Drop Savers” poster contest.

The city is looking for a poster design that depicts a water conservation idea, in slogan form, drawing form, or both.

The city says submissions will be judged based on the poster’s message, creativity, and originality, not just artistic ability.

Students may use crayons, paint, color, pencils, or markers.

But at a time when Artificial Intelligence is being used to create art, the city says you can’t submit computer graphics or photos in this contest.

Entries are due Friday, March 1, 2024.

The city says the first-place winner in each division will be recognized at a city council meeting, receive a gift bag, and have their artwork displayed at the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park.

Those winners will also participate in the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association statewide “Drop Savers” poster contest and be eligible for additional prizes.

All poster submissions must comply with the guidelines below:

  • Poster must be drawn on 8.5” x 11” white paper. It can be drawn vertically or horizontally
  • Each poster must portray a water conservation idea in a slogan, drawing or both
  • Students may use crayons, paint, color, pencils, or markers
  • NO highlighters, photos, or computer graphics
  • Students must work on posters individually
  • Only original artwork will be accepted (no trademarked or copyrighted materials)
  • Entry forms must be taped, or paper clipped to each poster
  • Posters will not be returned
