OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Families, runners, and community supporters are gearing up for a unique evening event in Downtown Ocala as Cogent Bank hosts its inaugural Cogent Bank Ocala Cup 5K on Saturday, May 3, at 6 p.m., starting from Citizens Circle.
Unlike traditional early-morning races, this twilight 5K promises scenic views of the historic district and a fun atmosphere, complete with high-quality shirts, a belt-buckle-style finisher medal, and a chance to win the coveted Ocala Cup.
Nick Blaser, Cogent Bank’s Market President, says the event is all about inspiring movement and giving back. “The Cogent 5K inspires others to be active and the result is physical and mental well-being,” he says. “Additionally, our bank will be able to deploy the funds raised by the event into the community, making a positive impact on other people’s lives.”
With a goal of raising $20,000, Cogent is taking a unique approach by letting top-tier sponsors direct where their donations go. “We allowed them to designate where their respective sponsor money will go,” Blaser explains. “The funds that haven’t been designated will remain in our Cogent Fund with the Community Foundation of Marion County and disbursed to other non-profit organizations throughout the year.”
Blaser also shares how the event has personal meaning for him. “Thirteen years ago, a colleague of mine asked me to do my first 5K… Little did I realize that event would change the course of my life in so many ways; mentally, physically, and spiritually.”
