OCALA, FL (352today.com) – It was just two decades ago that the College of Central Florida (CF) first introduced its equine program to the masses, allowing a brand-new avenue for prospective students to explore.
The program created back in 2003 will now be celebrating its 20th anniversary of operation.
To commemorate the occasion, CF will dedicate this year’s Vintage Farm Field Day to its double-dimed birthday.
Hosted annually by CF, guests attending the Vintage Farm Field Day can expect self-guided tours around the 103-acre facility which is valued at $2.9 million, according to CF.

There will be various presentations and displays from current equine and agriculture students showcasing their achievements in education.

“The event is an opportunity for people to check out what we’re working on in our respective areas,” said Tavis Douglass, an Associate Professor for Agriculture at CF. “We’re the horse capital of the world. Equine is right in our backyard.”
Alumni from CF’s equine and agriculture programs will be in attendance to showcase their career accomplishments to the Ocala community, giving insight into the work they do.

When talking about the distinct horse heritage of Ocala, Douglass pointed out how Needles, a hall-of-fame Ocala thoroughbred, won the Kentucky Derby just a year before the College of Central Florida was founded.
He thought there was definitely something a bit special about that event and how closely it correlates to the college’s founding.
“The College of Central Florida is part of the fabric of the equine industry here in Ocala,” said Douglass. “We’re proud to have been a part of it for the last 20 years.”
The event will take place on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CF’s Vintage Farm Campus which is located at 4020 SE 3rd Ave in Ocala.
