OCALA, FL (352today.com) – On June 3, the College of Central Florida’s (CF) baseball team won the NJCAA JUCO World Series in Colorado. On Aug. 15, the Patriots were officially recognized as national champions right here in their home base of Ocala.
The World Series win was the first in CF’s history, and the team finished 5-1. The Patriots’ end-of-season score of 56-7 set new records for both wins and winning percentage at the college.
Several players also won national awards: Juan Correa was crowned the World Series MVP, and Brian Holiday won Most Outstanding Pitcher. Head coach Marty Smith was also dubbed the national Coach of the Year.
The Marion County Board of Commissioners recognized the Patriots’ accomplishments at the most recent board meeting.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) holds national competitions for collegiate sports. Last year, CF’s women’s cross-country team also made it to NJCAA nationals during the team’s inaugural season.
