“It felt like we were meant to cross paths,” they recall. “Our partnership has really become the foundation for everything we do in the community. We support each other’s passions and work together to make a positive impact here in Ocala.”

Shared Values and Community Impact

Their shared commitment to compassion and service drives their dedication to giving back. “We believe everyone deserves support and opportunities to thrive. It’s about making a real difference, whether that’s through volunteering, supporting local initiatives, or just being there for someone in need.”

Starting with small acts of service, their involvement has grown over the years. “As we got more involved, our passion for service grew. Over the years, our impact has expanded through partnerships, collaborations, and connecting with others who share the same drive to help.”

One of their proudest accomplishments is seeing their three children actively participate in community service. “They’ve taken it even further by donating their time alongside us, serving the community in meaningful ways. Instilling the importance of serving others has been the most rewarding part of this journey.”

Balancing Work and Service

Managing careers and community commitments is a challenge, but Ashley and Ryan prioritize both. “It helps that our community work is something we’re passionate about—it doesn’t feel like an obligation, but rather a calling. Involving our children has turned it into a family effort.”

Leadership in Business and Philanthropy

Ashley shares that Ryan’s work at AdventHealth Ocala aligns with his mission to extend Christ’s healing ministry, focusing on health disparities and community support. Ashley’s role at the Community Foundation connects donors with meaningful causes, strengthening local nonprofits. “Together, our professional roles complement our personal commitment to service, allowing us to integrate philanthropy into both our work and family life.”

Lessons and Encouragement

The Gerds emphasize that no act of kindness is too small. “The impact grows when more people come together with a shared purpose. You don’t have to change the world all at once – sometimes, just showing up and being present in your community can make all the difference.”

Looking Ahead

Their future plans include deepening their involvement in local initiatives. Ryan continues his work with The Marion County Children’s Alliance and Better Together, while Ashley is focused on growing the Give4Marion campaign and the Back-to-School Community Giveback.

“Our ultimate goal is to inspire others to join us in making a lasting, positive impact in the community we love.”
