OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County branch of national cross-partisan organization Braver Angels will meet Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Marion County Public Library.
For the uninitiated, Braver Angels (fka Better Angels) is a decade-old, New York-based nonprofit dedicated to fostering the concept of “courageous citizenship,” primarily by holding workshops in which Republicans and Democrats come together to attempt to create a respectful, dignified and tolerant dialogue.
The primary topic of Thursday’s meeting is the impact of easy and widespread access to the “herbal supplement” kratom, and its impact on the local community. Kratom use, efficacy and addiction have become national conversations since the substance became nearly ubiquitous at gas stations and kava bars throughout the region, and is being used for everything from quelling anxiety to sublimating the cravings that come with opioid addiction.
New attendees are encouraged to come and bring a friend or family member.
The Main Branch of the Marion County Public Library is located at 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd.
