OCALA, FL (352today,com) – The office building in Ocala where a pickup truck plowed through on New Year’s Eve remains boarded up for the foreseeable future. But that’s not keeping them from doing business.
Just before midnight on Sunday, Dec. 31, a pickup truck driver refusing to stop for a Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputy crashed into the complex at the intersection of 22nd Avenue and East Fort King Street. Dashcam video shows the pursuit which ends just before the crash when the deputy’s patrol car is sidelined due to damage from an earlier collision with the pickup truck.
The crash killed the driver 36-year-old Kyle Last.
The office building is home to an Edward Jones financial advisor and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.
“We are very much still taking care of clients but doing so away from the office building while we await reports on the extent of the damage and then working through details with the insurance company,” said Bob Kennedy, managing broker for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. He’s also the owner of the building.

Kennedy says he got a call New Year’s Eve from police to come to the office where he saw the damage firsthand. When he got there, he said there was a large police presence and they had turned off all power before he got there.
He came back in the early morning hours to work on securing the building. Kennedy says his company has contingency plans for many different scenarios they can face. So, he says they’ve been able to continue to focus on serving customers. He says he plans to reopen at the same location once repairs are completed.
Justin Yancey is a financial advisor with Edward Jones. He rents the other part of the office building. He says he does much of his business directly with his clients, so it is not affecting him other than having to set up a remote place to work.
Both say it was quite the New Year’s Eve surprise.
