GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – UPDATE, 10:30 a.m.: The University of Florida (UF) says the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and university police have deemed the package not a threat. Law enforcement has checked Peabody Hall and given an “all clear,” allowing for normal operations to resume.

PREVIOUSLY, 9:31 a.m.: The University of Florida (UF) has issued an alert for its campus in Gainesville due to a suspicious package.

The UF alert instructs students, staff and faculty to evacuate Peabody Hall which is located at 1500 Union Road. The building is one of the oldest on the UF campus and currently houses offices for the Dean of Students and the Counseling Center.

UF says it is receiving assistance from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and asks everyone to stay away from the area while they investigate.
