DIXIE COUNTY, FL (352today.com) The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) investigated several complaints from people who said they were worried about the mistreatment and starvation of livestock at a Dixie County home.

Sheriff Darby Butler thanked the community for being concerned and assured them that the matter is being addressed carefully. However, specific details about the case are not available due to the ongoing investigation.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, the DCSO says that the animals were removed from the Ducharme home as part of their investigation. The livestock is being temporarily cared for at the DCSO agriculture facility. This rescue was a team effort involving the DCSO, the Florida Department of Agriculture, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Rural Services Division, and On the Hoof Veterinarian Services.

While the investigation continues, Sheriff Butler stated that multiple felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges will be filed with the State Attorney’s Office. The sheriff’s office is dedicated to ensuring justice for the animals that were mistreated.

To provide long-term care for the rescued animals, Sheriff Butler says he has arranged for them to be moved to the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch. There, the animals will receive proper care and be part of educational programs for the ranch’s youth, promoting healing and growth.

Sheriff Butler reiterated his commitment to protecting animals in the community, stressing that there is zero tolerance for abuse.
