Downtown Ocala construction is hurting local businesses: Here’s how you can help in just a few minutes

OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Ongoing construction in downtown Ocala is putting pressure on small, locally owned businesses already working hard to stay afloat. For some, the impact has been especially tough.

“I would say the biggest challenge has been the loss of close parking and the intermittent street closures, which have made it difficult for our regulars and new customers to access the café,” says Sarah Partee, owner of The Gathering Café. “Many people who would normally stop by for coffee or a quick bite are now discouraged by the inconvenience.”

The reduced foot traffic has led to a noticeable dip in sales. Despite the hurdles, Partee says her team is adapting by offering more grab-and-go options, and staying active on social media to keep their customer base engaged.

While construction crews have made an effort to communicate, Partee notes challenges with city support. “We lost water one Saturday morning due to a construction error… it forced us to close during our busiest time,” she says. “When I reached out to the city for help… I encountered frustration instead of solutions.”

Still, she remains hopeful and grateful to those who have stayed loyal through the disruption.

“To the community: if you love local business, now is the time to show up for them,” Partee urges. “Whether it’s our biscuits and gravy, a cup of coffee, or even just a review online – every bit of support matters.”
