HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – On Wednesday afternoon, October 16, emergency crews from the Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) were dispatched to Preston Rd. and Mondon Hill Rd., where they say a vehicle had become submerged in floodwaters.

They say that a person in a pickup truck decided to ignore road barriers and drove into the flooded zone.

The driver’s vehicle was quickly overtaken by the rising waters, leaving the individual stranded. HCFR says that they responded to the scene with an airboat and additional resources, successfully rescuing the driver from the submerged vehicle. They say that the driver wasn’t hurt.

HCFR urges the public to follow safety guidelines and avoid driving through flooded roadways with this message: Turn around, don’t drown.
