OCALA, FL (352today.com) – With the peak of Florida’s storm season just around the corner, Duke Energy aims to support local emergency operation centers and nonprofits with new grants totaling $300,000.

“Duke Energy is a company committed to improving reliability and resiliency for Florida customers and communities,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “Keeping Florida safe, resilient and strong starts with emergency preparedness. These grants will help provide the necessary support to ensure our customers and communities are ready to respond to whatever mother nature throws our way.”

These grants are intended to support emergency preparedness organizations during major weather events through early preparation. Duke Energy says the funding will go toward storm kits and other new materials and equipment for local emergency operations centers.

Earlier this year, the Duke Energy Foundation and Duke Energy Florida provided a $14,000 grant to support Hernando County’s public education campaign #HernandoPrepares, including hosting Hernando’s second HERricane Summer Camp. At this five-day camp, girls ages 13-17 learn about preparedness and emergency management, as well as skills like performing CPR, extinguishing small fires and building disaster supply kits.
