MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – An 81-year-old Ocala man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 40, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal wreck happened around 8:50 a.m. when the man, driving a sedan south on SW 113th Circle, attempted to turn left onto SR 40. As he crossed the westbound lanes, his vehicle entered the path of a pickup truck towing a trailer.
The pickup, driven by a 46-year-old Ocala man, was heading west in the inside lane of SR 40 when it struck the left side of the sedan.
When troopers arrived, the sedan was partially on the inside shoulder and center median of SR 40, facing southwest. The pickup and trailer came to rest in the center median, facing northwest.
Marion County Fire Rescue pronounced the sedan’s driver dead at the scene at 9 a.m.
FHP is investigating the crash.
