No, we don’t mean making sure you have enough hamburgers and sparklers for your four-legged friend to enjoy. The loud noises and bright lights we’re used to on the 4th of July can be stressful and even frightening for animals.

Veterinarian experts recommend a few different methods to prepare your pets for this experience, including updating identification, creating a safe space for the animals, and keeping an eye on firework and food debris for pet safety.

Many animals are less stressed with a companion by their side, so now could be the perfect time to adopt a firework buddy from Marion County Animal Services (MCAS). It’s not too late to pick up a red, white, & blue bandana and let these adoptable dogs join in on the fun.

MCAS will be closed on Thursday, July 4, for the holiday. Normal hours of operation will resume on Friday, July 5. You can catch MCAS and their adoptable dogs at Brown’s Country Market’s Junk in the Trunk Sale on Saturday, July 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
