GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Apollo Theater is known as the place where stars are born, and legends are made. This weekend, Gainesville performers will get their shot at landing on the famous stage.
One Nation One Project GNV (ONOP GNV) is holding auditions this weekend for the Apollo Theater Talent Search.
The auditions take place Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lincoln Middle School which is located at 1001 SE 12th St. in Gainesville.
Who’s eligible?
Anyone aged 5-25 can audition.
“It can be groups. It can be solos. It can be trios. It can be duets, singing, dancing, rapping, variety acts, musicians, we’re looking for all kinds of talent,” said Marion J. Caffey, artistic director for ONOP GNV.
Organizers say performers from the top two acts will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to compete at Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater.

They say advance registration is not required. Eligible performers who just walk up to audition are welcome.
The winners will be announced at the city’s Summer You(th) Celebration on July 27.
ONOP GNV is a national initiative that began in Gainesville and eight other cities. The group’s goal is to mitigate youth gun violence through arts and culture.
