CCFR says the victim told them they were cooking with oil when it caught fire. The department says this is consistent with the damage caused by the fire.

Firefighters declared the fire under control at 11:51 p.m. An additional search was conducted and found the burn victim was the only person inside the home at the time of the fire.

No further injuries were reported to CCFR.

The department attached a PSA to the release, stating the importance of fire safety in the kitchen. CCFR reminds the public to remain attentive while cooking, especially when using oils that can ignite quickly. Lastly, they say to keep a lid nearby to smother grease fires and to call 911 if a fire gets out of control.
