SUMMERFIELD, FL (352today.com) – our dogs were rescued Monday morning after a house fire broke out in the 9000 block of SE 140th Place in Summerfield.
Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) crews were dispatched at 10:04 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported heavy smoke and flames, with several pets trapped inside. More crews arrived on scene just three minutes later, confirming a working fire and initiating an aggressive response.
Using thermal imaging cameras, firefighters entered the smoke-filled home and found all four dogs, carrying them out to safety. Crews from Belleview, Spruce Creek, and The Villages also responded.
As firefighters battled the blaze, MCFR says that a section of the roof collapsed at the back of the home. Crews continued working inside and had the fire under control by 10:37 a.m., according to MCFR.
No one was hurt, and MCFR says that firefighters were also able to recover some cherished family heirlooms during the overhaul.
The homeowners arrived at the scene and were reunited with their pets. The American Red Cross is assisting the family. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
