NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA (352today.com) – The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) reports that the Withlacoochee River continues to experience elevated water levels as a result of Hurricane Milton. While many areas along the river have crested and begun to recede, SWFWMD says that others are still rising.
Key Points
- River Levels: Most areas from the Green Swamp to Highway 48 have crested and are slowly declining. However, sections near Lake Panasoffkee, the Outlet River, and Wysong are still rising but are expected to crest soon.
- Downstream Impact: Areas near Highway 44 and Highway 200 are still experiencing rising water levels, with potential for further increases in the coming days. Dunnellon may also see additional rises.
- Dam Operations: The Inglis Dam remains open, discharging significant amounts of water into the Barge Canal.
- Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes: Water is being diverted from the Withlacoochee River into this chain of lakes. While the lakes are nearing their peak levels, they are not expected to rise significantly further.
- Lake Panasoffkee and Wysong Structure: Lake Panasoffkee is slowly rising but is expected to crest soon. The Wysong Structure remains fully lowered.

Local Impacts
The SWFWMD notes that residents and businesses along the Withlacoochee River should continue to monitor water levels and take necessary precautions. Floodwaters can cause significant damage to property and infrastructure.
