OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that state employees will receive three additional days off this December, giving them more time to spend with their families during the holiday season.
“In addition to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, our state workers will get three extra days off—December 23, 24, and 31—to spend more time with their families and loved ones this holiday season,” the governor shared in a post on X. According to a press release, state offices will be closed on all five of these dates.
“Florida is in great shape, and we want to reward our state employees,” DeSantis said in the release. “After a full year—including three costly hurricanes—we hope these extra days off allow for state workers to spend more time with their families and loved ones during this holiday season.”
State employees have already enjoyed additional time off this year, including November 27, the day before Thanksgiving, confirmed Dan Barrow of the Florida Department of Management Services.
In 2024, Florida recognizes nine paid holidays, plus one personal day per year for full-time employees. Last year, similar extra closures were announced during the holiday season to acknowledge the dedication of state workers responding to hurricanes and other emergencies.
