TALLAHASSEE, FL (352today.com) – Has your employment status been affected as a result of Hurricane Idalia? You might be eligible for assistance.

FloridaCommerce introduced the Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) which is available for Floridians who were directly impacted by the hurricane and are not eligible for regular state reemployment assistance benefits.

If your employment or self-employment was lost or impacted as a result from Idalia, you can submit a claim at www.FloridaJobs.org. You must submit your claim by 11:59 p.m., on October 2, 2023.

Residents and businesses in Citrus, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Pasco, Suwannee, and Taylor counties are eligible to apply.

It is only available to those are not eligible to receive federal or state Reemployment Assistance benefits.

You must meet one of these requirements:

  1. You worked or were self-employed or expected to begin work/self-employment.
  2. Not able to work due destruction of workplace directly from Hurricane Idalia.
  3. Can authenticate that the job was your only main source of income.
  4. You don’t qualify for regular unemployment benefits in any state.
  5. You are injured as a result of the hurricane and can’t work.
  6. You are now the main source of income of a household due to the death of the head of the household.

DUA will be available from Sept. 3, 2023, until March 2, 2024, as long as the disaster remains to be the reason for your unemployment.
