GAINESVILLE, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Gators gymnastics team brought home a victory over Kentucky, claiming the 2024 Southeastern Conference (SEC) regular season title.
No. 5 Florida scored a season-high of 198.225 on Sunday afternoon at Rupp Arena giving them a win over No. 6 Kentucky who finished with a program record of 198.10.
Florida’s program says the win made it the team’s sixth consecutive regular season SEC title and their 16th overall.
This year’s dual meet with Kentucky marked the third consecutive year that the regular-season title was on the line between the two.
The Gators win over No. 2 LSU last week secured them a share of the title.
“With this team starting on day 1, looking back from that point in time to where we are now, I couldn’t be more proud,” said head Coach Jenny Rowland after the team’s victory.
The two other teams that had the chance to share the 2024 SEC title with wins in their SEC regular-season finale were the Tigers and Kentucky. LSU clinched a home win over Alabama on Friday. Kentucky had to secure a win over the Florida which would mean all three programs would have been tied with 5-2 records.
About halfway through the meet, the Gators were 0.25 points behind the Wildcats. The Gators say their floor exercise scored a season-best of 49.725. Anya Pilgram, a freshman for Florida also scored a 10.0 on her floor routine.

“I was just so in shock, and I was so ecstatic, I could not believe it. My biggest dream was to have a ring so it’s like the best day of my life,” shared Pilgram with the media Sunday. “It’s a really big deal that we keep improving each week cause as we keep getting better it can be harder to top that big score, but I’m just really proud of where we are.”
Their floor performance helped them gain the lead and they went into beams up by 0.30.
The Gators finished with their beam exercise with a total of 49.575, their second-highest beam score. While Florida did their beam performance, the Wildcats rotated to the floor, which is their best scoring event, according to the University of Florida (UF).
Kentucky’s floor exercise scored a season-high of 49.750, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Gators. Click here to view the full results of the meet.
According to UF gymnastics, their SEC title added to three other titles for the university in the 2023-24 season with women’s cross country and men’s and women’s swimming and diving claiming titles as well.
“This team really has gone through highs, lows, in it together and they never stopped fighting. Today is the day we get to celebrate, we get to celebrate a sole possession of the SEC championship,” said Rowland.
