GILCHRIST COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Gilchrist County deputies arrested a man they say stole credit cards from multiple vehicles during the month of December.

The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) stated in a Facebook post that 31-year-old Robert Farrug of Citrus Springs burglarized multiple vehicles, stole credit cards from them and then used them to make purchases.

The sheriff’s office says while investigating one of the burglaries which happened on December 29, 2023, they discovered the victim’s cards had been used in Dunnellon.

Detectives went to Dunnellon and obtained surveillance footage they say shows Farrug using the stolen credit cards.

During their investigation of another vehicle burglary that happened earlier in December, detectives say another victim’s credits cards were stolen and this time used in Wesley Chapel, Florida. They say security video there also connected Farrug to the crime.

GCSO obtained a warrant for Farrug’s arrest. Citrus County deputies took him into custody and transferred him to Gilchrist County a few days later. Gilchrist County detectives say during an interview, Farrug admitted to committing the vehicle burglaries as well as using the stolen credit cards.

He is being held on a $320,000 bond for two cases in Gilchrist County.

The sheriff’s office says during the investigation, they discovered Farrug has also committed similar unsolved crimes in multiple jurisdictions and counties throughout north-central Florida.

“All information pertaining to the cases has been given to the controlling agencies,” stated GCSO.
