OCALA, FL (352today.com) – A new Haagen-Dazs ice cream shop is planned for downtown Ocala, bringing the premium ice cream brand’s first standalone location to the city.

According to plans filed with the city, the shop will set up shop in a vacant storefront between the Mutiny Bar and The Lodge Ocala Pub & Eatery. It is said to feature a customer seating area, a service counter with dipping cabinets for ice cream and a branded display wall. The space is expected to serve as both a dessert destination and a gathering spot in the downtown square area.

The project is currently tied to a city grant application. If the grant is approved, construction is expected to begin as soon as possible. According to filings, city staff advanced the application to the board in an effort to avoid delays. An official opening date has not yet been announced.

The new location would make Ocala one of the few Central Florida cities with a dedicated Haagen-Dazs storefront. Outside of Ocala, the nearest shops are located in The Villages and Orlando.

More details are expected to be released as the project moves forward.
