HERNANDO COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies arrested a man they say opened fire inside a Mexican restaurant, killing one person and injuring another.

HCSO says they were dispatched to the El Sol de Mexico restaurant, located at 31077 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville, after reports of a shooting. They say a caller advised the 911 operator that a man had shot at people inside the restaurant. The caller advised the dispatcher that after the shooting the man drove away in an unknown direction.

HCSO arrived on the scene and obtained surveillance video which confirmed the witness account. They say witnesses who were on the scene described a small black vehicle with Georgia tags as the one the man got into.

HCSO says shortly thereafter, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description. HCSO says troopers approached the vehicle and observed the man also matched the description. FHP immediately detained him and transported him to HCSO for an interview.

HCSO says the man identified as 21-year-old Donald Donell Jamison refused to speak with them upon at the station. They say while in an interview room with detectives and a forensic specialist, Jamison attempted to escape.

Deputies charged him with:

  • First Degree Murder
  • Attempted First Degree Murder
  • Robbery (two counts)
  • Attempted Escape from Law Enforcement

Jamison is currently being held without bond.

HCSO says the two people who were shot at the restaurant were making a delivery. They were identified as 53-year-old Claudia Barbosa and her son, 28-year-old Nicolas Bello. HCSO says Barbosa was killed during the shooting, while Bello suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives will continue developing a timeline leading up to the shooting.
