OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) took some time out of its usual schedule to take kids on a Christmas shopping spree.
Through Target’s Heroes and Helpers program, officers were able to assist 25 children with Project Hope Ocala during the shopping spree on Thursday. Target donated $2,500, allowing each child to spend $100.
Officers, 911 dispatchers, and professional staff helped the kids with their shopping as they looked-for toys, clothes, games, and candy.
“This was not only a fun-filled evening but also an opportunity to spread some holiday cheer and make a difference for those in need,” shared OPD.
Heroes and Helpers is a partnership between Target, charity organizations, and local first responders including police and fire or emergency medical service providers. The first responders partner with a local nonprofit organization and apply for a grant from Target, shared the company on its website.
“Our team members work closely with first responders all across the country to help ensure a safe shopping experience at Target,” said Justin Burns, Target’s senior vice president of assets protection. “Heroes & Helpers provides us the opportunity to create long lasting connections with those in the communities where we live and serve.”
OPD partnered with Project Hope Ocala, a nonprofit established in 2007 by a faith-based community group. Its mission is to provide resources for homeless women and their children.
Families who are part of Project Hope Ocala receive a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment with donated furniture and household items. You can help by making a donation here.
