BELL, FL (352today.com) – “I’m nothing without the horses who have defined me and made me into a trainer and helped me become who I was professionally and personally,” said Yvonne Barteau when asked what prompted a world-renowned dressage rider and trainer to start a horse rescue.

Barteau heads up Horses Without Humans, a nonprofit organization in Bell dedicated to providing transitional horses with care and training to secure an adoptive home.

“I had to do something to help the horses that were, you know, that were being shipped to slaughter, or in harm’s way, or were getting cashed off,” Yvonne said.  “I couldn’t sleep, so that’s what I did.”

Yvonne says that the rescue has brought her more peace of mind, happiness, and contentment than anything she’s done in 50 years.  The goal of the rescue continues to be rehabilitation for the horses, and education for the humans.
