LEESBURG, FL (352today.com) – The Leesburg Police Department (LPD) says the man wanted in connection with the killing of a convenience store clerk has been taken into custody.

LPD posted on its Facebook page Wednesday night saying 25-year-old Alex Lopez had been arrested. The agency said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) Violent Crime Task Force in Orlando made the arrest.

Investigators tell us they located him at the Sunshine Inn at 4643 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.

“We are thankful the public provided us many tips on the whereabouts of Mr. Lopez. Through collaborative partnerships and investigative measures, we were able to arrest Mr. Lopez,” said Sgt. Shannon Walsh of the Leesburg Police Department.

51-year-old Raied Shihadeh was shot on Thursday, May 30, at the Leesburg convenience store he co-owned. Security cameras captured the killing and prompted the manhunt for Lopez.

“He was very observant and wanted to do things to keep his family happy,” said Monique Shihadeh, Raied’s wife. “He never wanted us to worry.”

352today’s Ben Baugh spoke with her just days after she and their five children marked their first Father’s Day without Raied.

Central Florida Crimeline offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to Lopez’s arrest. Shihadeh set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to increase the reward. It garnered more than $4,800. At this time, it’s not clear if a Crimeline tip led to investigators to Lopez.

“I don’t want this to happen to another family. I don’t want this situation that has happened to myself and my children to happen to anyone else,” said Shihadeh.

“We are grateful for their assistance, along with all other local, state, and federal agencies who assisted in his capture,” LPD wrote in the Facebook post. “Above all else, we hope this provides some level of relief and solace for the family of Raied “Ray” Shihadeh.”

Lopez has been booked into the Osceola County Jail and being held without bond.
