MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – It was a very good day for incumbents in Marion County.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods, Marion County Commissioner Craig Curry and Marion County Public School Board district 1’s Allison B. Campbell all won reelection.
While Matt McClain’s victory in the Republican primary for Marion County Commission district 3 was overwhelming, garnering 75.88 % of the vote against challenger David Blackwell, his bid for reelection is not over. He will face a write-in candidate in November’s general election.
Sheriff
Woods was elected to a third term, scoring a decisive victory over his opponent Milton Simmons Busby Jr., winning with 75.38 % of the vote.

County Commission
Craig Curry stamped his ticket to another term on the Marion County Commission, winning with 60.35 % of the vote, returning to district 1 with a victory against Sarah Almeida Dennis.
“I want to congratulate Sarah. She worked hard. It was a family event for her. Her young children were out helping her,” said Curry. “And for a first-time person in the arena of politics, she did well. Personally, I can tell you I have never worked harder at anything than I have in the past four years as a county commissioner, and most people don’t see a small percentage of what we do. It’s exciting to have won and to have four more years and try to continue some of the programs I’ve started. I enjoy working with the commissioners we have. It’s a very collegial group.”

School Board
And in the closest race, Allison B. Campbell was victorious in a hard-fought bout against former Marion County School Board member Beth McCall, winning by 5.52 percentage points to retain her seat as a board member representing district 1.
“I’m super grateful. The voters have spoken. We’re putting kids first and that’s what matters most,” said Campbell. “I said all along, I’m a parent not a politician. I am doing what’s best for kids and it looks like the voters resonated with that message. I’m super grateful that we can continue the work that we started. I’m ready to continue to go to work for kids.”
