OCALA, FL (352today.com) – It’s the first day of August. Or, as the folks at Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) call it, Dogust 1st.

This day is known as the universal birthday for shelter dogs who don’t have an official birth record.

What would be a better birthday gift for those dogs than a new forever home? MCAS reported 160 adoptable dogs in their shelters as of Thursday.

MCAS also reported 72 cats available for adoption. After many weeks battling a feline panleukopenia outbreak, cat and kitten adoptions have officially resumed at the shelter.

You can stop by 5701 SE 66th Street in Ocala from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays to meet the purr-fect pets that are ready to go home with you.

This week, all adoptions are only $5, and cats are BOGO. Meet our sweet pets of the week that could be your new best friends.
