MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is mourning the loss of a former deputy described by the department as “outstanding.”

Jerry Holland Sr., a retired Chief Deputy who worked at the sheriff’s office for over 40 years, has died.

The sheriff’s office posted a tribute in Holland’s memory on social media.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Retired Chief Deputy Jerry Holland Sr., who was an outstanding human being and a great leader at the Office of the Sheriff for many years,” they wrote. “He had a great impact on our agency and has left a legacy of decedents who have served and continue to serve the citizens of Marion County.”

Holland worked for MCSO full-time from Oct. 15, 1968, to Jan. 31, 1997. He began working part-time on Jan. 31, 1997, until Jan. 29, 2001. Following a two-year rest, Holland returned to MCSO on Aug. 27, 2003, as a reserve deputy. He maintained this position for 10 years before retiring on June 12, 2013.

Holland received numerous letters of commendation from fellow employees, supervisors, and community partners while serving as chief deputy. He was also awarded various Certificates of Appreciation and Certificates of Commendation.

Chief Holland was 80 years old at the time of his death.

“We share our love and condolences with Chief Holland’s family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable life,” said MCSO.
