CITRUS COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A 62-year-old Lecanto man is dead, and another is injured after a hit-and-run crash Sunday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says 31-year-old Robert Brandon Vanzant of Lady Lake was speeding and driving his Ford F150 on the shoulder of CR 200 (also known as North Carl G Rose Highway), passing other traffic.

They say near East Spruce Drive, Vanzant merged back into traffic and that’s when he hit the back of a Honda Accord driven by a 62-year-old Lecanto man.

Troopers say the impact of the collision caused the Honda to hit a bridge rail, and then a Ford F150 headed northbound driven by a 42-year-old Beverly Hills man.  The Beverly Hills man suffered minor injuries, according to troopers.  They say the driver of the Honda was transported to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

FHP troopers say Vanzant left the scene, went to a nearby gas station, abandoned his vehicle, and then ran into a field. Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) located and arrested him.
