MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Lake County announced on Friday, March 20, 2026 that it is lifting the mandatory burn ban implemented on March 11, when the Keetch-Byram Drought Index rose above 500.

“Following significant rainfall from recent storms, officials determined that fire risk has decreased and the index is now below the threshold,” read an announcement. “Residents are encouraged to follow safety guidelines when burning outdoors, including closely monitoring fires, keeping them contained in a fire pit or other fire-resistant container, and maintaining access to a water source in case of emergency.”

In related news, just to the north, Alachua County has extended its own county-wide mandatory burn ban through March 27.

“In response to worsening drought conditions and elevated wildfire activity statewide, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 26-33, declaring a State of Emergency that includes Alachua County,” read that county’s announcement. “The order recognizes the growing wildfire threat resulting from critically dry conditions across Florida.”
