LAKE COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Lake County’s Keep Lake Beautiful (KLB) program is hosting an event on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, to help beautify the community by disposing of items that could act as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The event will take place from 9 a.m. until noon, and it will include community clean-up, bulk items and household hazardous waste drop-off, and Waste Tire Amnesty Day at the following locations:
- Groveland: Festival Park (117 North Main Ave., Groveland, FL 34736)
- Volunteer sign-in
- Bulk items drop-off, household hazardous waste, and waste tire collection (up to 24 rimless tires per household) available at no charge to Lake County residents with identification
- Mascotte: City Hall (100 East Myers Blvd., Mascotte, FL 34753)
- Volunteer sign-in
- Community clean-up only
This event is a partnership between Keep Lake Beautiful, Lake County Solid Waste, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the City of Mascotte, the City of Groveland, Waste Pro, and the Florida Department of Transportation.
Community clean-up
Volunteers will collect litter. Preregister at keeplakebeautiful.com/#events or register in person on the day of the event. Volunteer check-in starts at 8:45 a.m.
KLB will provide trash grabbers, safety vests, trash bags, gloves, and water. An adult must accompany volunteers under 18 years old. Participants are encouraged to wear proper attire, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Volunteer hours are available.
Bulk item and household hazardous waste drop-off
Residents can dispose of excess trash and bulky items at this event. Lake County’s Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Unit also will be on-site to accept paint, fuel, household chemicals/cleaners, motor oil, and other hazardous household waste.
Waste Tire Amnesty Day
Lake County residents can help combat mosquito populations and keep the community clean by participating in Waste Tire Amnesty Day. Residents may dispose of up to 24 passenger car tires (per household) measuring 40 inches or less at no charge. Large commercial tires will not be accepted, and rims must be removed.
Residents may also bring their tires to the Lake County Central Solid Waste Facility located at 13130 County Landfill Rd., Tavares, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 24.
- There is no charge for Lake County residents to participate in Waste Tire Amnesty Day, but identification is required.
