LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A woman was arrested by Levy County deputies inside of a barn after they say she murdered one woman and shot her relative.
The Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says they received a call around 4:20 p.m. on March 14, 2024 regarding a shooting. They say deputies immediately responded to the scene located at 6650 NW 100 Avenue in the southwest area of Chiefland.

After investigating, detectives say they received information from a witness that suggested that the shooter was 46-year-old Kimberly Dawn Barba. The witness told deputies that Barba may have barricaded herself in a nearby barn and was still armed at the time.

The witness also shared with authorities that Barba stated she would shoot law enforcement when they arrived.
Deputies say they discovered what “appeared to be a victim of the shooting slumped over in a nearby truck.”
LCSO detectives and the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) responded to the scene and removed the deceased woman from inside of the truck. They say they also confirmed that Barba was barricaded inside of the nearby barn.
TRU members were able to locate Barba and arrested her around 6:40 p.m.
After further investigation, detectives determined that Barba and the victim reside on the same property but they are not related to each other.
Deputies say the victim and her relative came home from running errands prior to the shooting. Barba then approached the victim with a gun, making multiple statements, and then shot the victim, according to authorities.
After she was shot, the victim sought shelter inside of her truck, shared the sheriff’s office. LCSO says the family member ran, but Barba fired several shots and hit the victim’s elbow with one of the bullets.

They say Barba then went back to the victim inside of the truck, firing several more shots, and then went to the barn where she was later found.
She has been booked into the Levy County Detention Center on one count of premeditated murder and is being held there without bond. The sheriff’s office says they are expected to file additional charges since it is an ongoing investigation.
