LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies say they arrested a man who failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to Florida and sped away from them in an RV when they attempted to pull him over.

The sheriff’s office says they arrested 45-year-old Jason Key on charges of failing to register as a sex offender, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say Key keeps moving back and forth between Wisconsin and Florida
LCSO deputies say Key moved to the Bronson area in 2019 after he was convicted of crimes in Wisconsin in 2018 deeming him a sex offender. When Key initially moved to Levy County, they say he was in compliance with all of the state’s sex offender registration requirements.

They say he returned to Wisconsin in 2021.

Deputies say they discovered Key had returned to Levy County on October 28 of this year and had been residing in a motor home.

They say after checking his registration status, they learned he had failed to report his return to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office says he also was continuing to report to authorities in Wisconsin that he was living there.

As a result, deputies arrested Key on Oct. 30. Once he got out on bond, they say he was ordered to complete his registration as a sexual offender in Florida. They say violated this court order.

On Dec. 1, detectives tried to stop Key after they spotted him driving an RV on Route 27. LCSO says he tried to speed away from them in the RV but eventually gave up.

After searching the RV, deputies say they found drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine. Deputies arrested him and he’s being held in the Levy County Detention Center on a $55,000 bond.
