LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A man is now in custody following an intense high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash.
Deputies from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) arrested 40-year-old Daniel Maxwell after they say he drove off from a traffic stop. They released the dashcam video of the chase.
LCSO says the truck Maxwell was driving was stolen from his girlfriend.
Before the chase
Chiefland Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a call on Monday, April 30, where a woman said she was beaten by her boyfriend while the two of them were driving in town.
Police say the boyfriend then stole her truck and fled the scene.
A Levy County deputy spotted the stolen truck just north of Inglis on US Highway 19.

Once the deputy was back in his vehicle, the driver hit the gas and took off.
A Fast Pursuit
LCSO says the deputy chased the driver southbound on US 19 with speeds in excess of 100 mph.
Further down the road, another deputy deployed stop sticks which punctured the truck’s front left tire.

As his tire began to disintegrate, the chase continued into Citrus County, narrowly missing other vehicles.

As the driver turned onto State Road 44, you can see his tire falls off and his evasive maneuvers became more erratic.
The driver ran red lights and swerved through intersections as the chase continued into Crystal River.

The dashcam video shows the driver turn onto a neighborhood street. His car swerved left, hitting a mailbox before violently jerking right, crashing into a power pole and coming to rest next to a tree.

Driver
The driver was identified as 40-year-old Daniel Maxwell of Crystal River.

He was charged with:
- Aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement officers
- Grand theft of a motor vehicle
- Driving on a suspended driver’s license
