LEVY COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The State of Florida has granted Levy County a $10,972,471 check for a new E-911 and Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
On Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, a ceremony took place just outside the current Levy County EOC, where the state presented a check to Levy County.
The county says the E-911 Center houses the Emergency Telecommunicators who dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS services in Levy County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
According to Levy, their current building does not meet the 2023/2024 hurricane hardness specifications, meaning it could be damaged if a major hurricane were to strike them.
The county says the EOC is where staff gather to manage natural disasters and other emergencies that impact the county.
The county says their current EOC building does not have “adequate space” for county personnel to work for extended durations as required during emergencies.
In attendance at the presentation were various county representatives, including BoCC Chair Desiree Mills, Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum, Commissioner John Meeks, and Emergency Management Director John MacDonald.
State representatives included Senator Keith Perry and Speaker Pro Tempore Chuck Clemons.
