MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) announced on Tuesday the final figures from the “Clear the Shelters” campaign.

The campaign, which MCAS deems an “incredible success,” took place from August 10 to September 10. The campaign was founded by NBCUniversal Local to challenge shelters to facilitate as many adoptions as possible.

MCAS says despite the increased intake, the shelter maintained a live release rate of 93.8%, surpassing last year’s 92%.

The statistics included:

  • 472 animals being adopted, a 38.4% increase from last year.
  • 249 animals were placed in foster homes, a 112.3% increase from last year.
  • 74 animals were reunited with their owners, a 2.7% increase from last year.
  • 218 cats were sterilized, vaccinated, and returned home, a 251.6% increase from last year.
  • Volunteers dedicated a total of 1,096.7 hours, a 36.8% increase over last year.

“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the community, volunteers, and staff who made this year’s Clear the Shelters campaign a resounding success,” says MCAS. “Your generosity and dedication have made a significant difference in the lives of countless animals!”
