OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Temperatures rising means that kitten season is in full swing, and Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) needs help getting through it.

The warm months between April and October are considered “kitten season,” as the hotter temps correlate with a higher number of kittens being born. Animal shelters, including MCAS, see an influx of kittens needing homes during this period.

A check of the MCAS website on Thursday morning showed more than a dozen kittens under 14 weeks old available for adoption.

MCAS says kittens need more specific items than older cats like the pâté style canned food. Shelter employees say it is the easier and more palatable than the shredded or cubed variety.

This week, MCAS is offering half off adoptions to those who help them out by bringing in a donation of kitten food or other supplies. You can pick up items at the pet store to bring to the shelter, or you can use the foster program wish list on Amazon to buy supplies and have them delivered.

Prefer to donate to the dogs? A bag of Pupperoni treats will get you the same discount. The half-off adoption promotion applies to both cats and dogs, including this week’s Pets of the Week.

TAKE ME HOME THIS WEEK – MAY 30, 2024

Neo is a recent graduate of the FIDO Project, which pairs inmates with shelter dogs to learn basic obedience and life skills. This special three-year-old is as smart as she is beautiful and she’s ready to start a new life with a great family! Courtesy: MCAS
Who loves to talk to their pets? Ever wished they could answer you? If so, look no further than Cry Baby. Admittedly, you might not always know what this four-year-old boy is saying, but rest-assured, he always wants to be part of the conversation. Courtesy: MCAS
Bonnie is a staff favorite, who arrived at the shelter with a severe skin condition that made her uncomfortable and even hard to look at. Now, this six-year-old girl is popular, has lots of friends, and gets to go on field trips with staff and volunteers. Her next big goal is a loving home! Courtesy: MCAS
